WEEK 3

This week we have been discussing our "Major Inquiry Assignment". I have chosen the topic of children with alcoholic/abusive parents. This topic is very close to home with me because I am a child of an alcoholic and abusive parent. My father suffers from alcoholism, so I know exactly what its like to experience that first hand. It can have serious effects on a child and mold them into something more negative, or it can fuel a child into becoming something and someone better than what people expected them to become. This week we also discussed how to prepare for this project and began brainstorming NPO's for our topics.

WEEK 2

During our first week of class, we discussed what makes good rhetoric and how to properly compose a thesis statement. We also discussed how good rhetoric persuades your audience and how everything has to be placed properly in order to affect ones target reader. For example, in advertisements and commercials they use many different tactics in order to get a message across to their viewers and readers. Visuals are one great way to get a message across as well as bold messages and a dramatic theme. All of these elements create a persuasive message such as the ones we viewed in the Dove and Green Peace Ad.

Me as a reader and Writer

When I was younger, I definitely loved to read more than I do as an adult. I was a big fan of The Series of Unfortunate Events before the actual movie came out and totally ruined how I felt about the series. Now as an adult I enjoy reading books with murder, romance, and mystery. The only issue now is finding the time to actually sit down and enjoy a book. That gets a little difficult when you work full time and go to school full time. But truly, there is nothing like a good book when you have some down time.

Writing is something I definitely love to do because it relieves a lot of stress. There's nothing like expressing yourself on paper. I usually write songs and poetry in my spare time because thats more so where my passion lies. I sing and play guitar, so I use writing to bring my music to life. Other than what was aformentioned, I don't really write unless its for educational purposes.
